Article 4.12 Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice.

(a) (1) There shall be a Chief Justice of the IC Court.

(b) (2) The Chief Justice shall be appointed as provided in Article 4.13.

(c) (3) The Chief Justice shall be responsible for the leadership, administration, and proper functioning of the IC Court.

(d) (4) The Chief Justice may issue Directives governing the internal governance and administration of the IC Court, the allocation of judges, the management of proceedings, and the interaction of the Court with parties, representatives, and the public, including such Directives as are provided for under Article 4.35.

(e) (5) In issuing such instruments, the Chief Justice shall be guided by the principles set out in the respective Chapters, by internationally recognised best practices, and by the constitutional traditions, sensitivities, and requirements of the Host Country.

(f) (6) The Chief Justice shall appoint one of the judges of the IC Court to serve as Deputy Chief Justice.

(g) (7) The Deputy Chief Justice shall exercise the functions of the Chief Justice in the event of absence, incapacity, or vacancy in that office.
