Article 6.26 Humane, Appropriate, and Proportionate Treatment

(a) (1) No person shall be subjected to torture or to deadly, corporeal, cruel and unusual, inhumane, or degrading punishment or treatment. No person deprived of liberty shall suffer arbitrary, gratuitous, or ceremonial humiliation.

(b) (2) Accused persons shall be segregated from convicted persons and be accorded treatment consistent with the presumption of innocence. Juveniles shall be segregated from adults and be accorded treatment appropriate to their age and legal status.

(c) (3) No person shall be held in slavery or in servitude. No person shall be required to perform forced or compulsory labour, except for work or service reasonably required of a person who has been conditionally released from detention pursuant to the lawful order of a court or appeal court.
